The idea behind “fringe theater” lies in the concept of “uninjured” performance choices. With hardly any restrictions regarding plot themes, script content or level of acting ability, the fringe theater remains a unique and unpredictable art form. So what better place for the fringe theater to thrive than the open-minded city of New Orleans which embraces individuality and creativity?
New Orleans began its own Fringe Theater Festival in 2008 with intentions of celebrating New Orleans very own grassroots in mind. The non-profit event has continued through 2011 with unique new shows each year. While the theater has unfortunately not gained relative attention to that of the New Orleans music or art scene, the theater remains news worthy as more fresh talent and innovative performances are discovered with every following festival.
Below you will find pictures and videos of the past Fringe Theater Festivals celebrated in the Crescent City as well as links to resources regarding history and upcoming events.
